  • Anna ASKED an MC at a comedy show to call her a "derogatory" Italian name and the MC refused 
  • Vinnie was talking to a black girl named Keisha about all the different names containing "Keisha" including "Nakeisha and Lakeisha"
    • The two were getting along quite well, and then another black girl in the class asked Vinnie to repeat the convo so she could record it and chop it up and show Vinnie in a bad light 
      • Even though he was not being racist and was literally just talking about black culture with a black student
  • Does not think Bernie would be a good president -- he is too socialist and would take the money out of our pockets 

JILLIAN MICHAELS

  • Jillian Michaels was saying that you can eat grains as long as you watch your caloric intake (UGH!)
  • Admitted on the Carolla show that she: dropped out of CSUN after 1 semester, became a fitness trainer online because she had a good body from karate 
    • Vinnie's lawyer went online to see how long it would take to become a lawyer -- took about 30 mins 
  • She tried to get Villa Cappelli as a sponsor after we had them as a sponsor, they refused because they would have lost Vinnie and they believe in REAL health and fitness 
  • She got onto the Carolla show a week after Vinnie was on 

BEING A TRAINER

  • Lots of people got these cheap, not very legitimate training degrees because they thought become a trainer would be easy and make you rich
    • Certainly not the case
  • Basically costs $600 to become a trainer
    • Vinnie actually has a college degree in this, unlike most other trainers (especially gym trainers)
  • Vinnie now has a segment on Adam's big show "Fit or Bullshit"

  • When he was a kid, would drink Fanta Grape Soda
    • Vinnie drank Dr. Pepper and Anna Coca Cola
      • Never really in the house for Vinnie

CALIE

  • She is nearly 40, 5'6", around 140 lbs
    • This is the heaviest she has been in her life
    • Until 5 or 6 years ago, she could eat whatever she wanted without worrying 
  • Used to eat bagels, sandwiches, pasta, white flour, chocolate
  • Now that she is on NSNG, she has eggs and spinach for breakfast, salad for lunch, dinner is some type of veg & protein
  • She thinks it is hard to stick to this diet so strictly
    • Life happens and it makes it hard!
    • Vinnie doesn't want this to be super extreme
      • That being said, allowing "cheat days" is not the way to go
        • You can put LIL occasionally, but not have a whole day of doing whatever you want
  • Try to have 21 or so stricter days, to get your body on this lifestyle so that when you do put LIL, your body can handle it better
    • The first 3 weeks are hard and you have to want it 
    • It really does get easier, though 
    • Cut out her normal wine or beer for a spirit instead for 21 days -- that will make a difference
  • Her cravings for chocolate started to disappear!
  • You can't keep going back and forth on NSNG -- must impede the progress in the negative direction 
    • You can't get "a little bit pregnant", same type of deal!

Brad Kearns, author and triathlete, joins Vinnie Tortorich on this Friday edition of the Celebrity Fitness Trainer. The two discuss growing up in the 60's and 70's, finding the right life-path for you, and becoming a professional triathlete.

  • Facebook is going to die out, the two think
  • Kids are programmed to be great at everything
  • Everything is more intense
  • Very different time, less hippy-dippy than when Vinnie and Brad grew up 

PROFESSIONAL TRIATHLETES 

  • They created triathlons for professionals 
  • Brad worked in accounting for 12 weeks after attending UCLA, then he realized he did not like it, and worked to become a pro triathlete
  • Not a lot of money in it, but he pursued it none the less
  • Won over 30 triathlons, including 7 in a row 
  • Brad had a pure and natural motivation for competing as an athlete 
  • Brad got his butt kicked for awhile, then eventually started to catch up to these old pros 
  • His first triathlon, he was 24th/27 after the first run section, then he ended up winning, beating guys like Molina and Sousa 
    • Was 4 minutes behind the leaders because they were all going way too quickly and bonked

  • Nobody thought this company would work
    • Both were warned that this would be a failure
  • Vinnie went to bank to start check book for company at bank 
    • More recently, the woman who helped him saw him at the bank and said hi

      • She was shocked that it was successful 
        • She had seen too many of these things fail, but not this one!

IS A KID VITAMIN ON THE WAY FOR PVC?

  • For kids over 8, our PVC vitamins out currently do the trick

    • We don't think there WOULD be a problem for a 7 year old, but kids are more sensitive and that is a judgement call of the parents

CHEST

  • Do not do EVERY exercise in one day 
  • How to choose how to build your chest:
    • If you're not trying to become a bodybuilder, at the very most pick 3 exercises per workout that focus on Chest
    • Ex: bench press, incline, decline, dips, dumbbell press, flat fly, incline fly, decline fly, pushups
  • Hit it and quit it -- your body can only handle so much
  • Start with major exercise, then do two minor exercises 
  • Also, make sure you are warmed up with a light weight exercise first (this does not count as 1 of your 3 exercises)
  • How much weight (8-9 sets of press)
    • Reps: 12-15 is good, you want to be hurting at rep 12 (weight wise) and wondering if you can get to 15
    • If you are doing 8 reps, you want to be 'struggling' at rep 6
  • Free weights make sure someone is spotting you 
  • Don't overwork triceps either (tricep extensions) 
  • More is not necessarily better

QUITTING SUGAR

  • If you aren't going to quit grain, your liver doesn't know that you quit sugar 
  • It might help quitting just sugar, but not ever really effective until you quit both 

PUTTING LIFE INTO LIVING

  • You can enjoy sugar or grain every once in awhile, just dont go crazy and don't make it a habit, then it is a slippery slope 
  • Vinnie has done 2 years of NLIL and hasn't found ways around it
    • He never told himself lies and ate agave or fake sugars or anything like that
    • If you want to do NLIL, don't lie to yourself -- your liver won't believe you!

  • Used olive oil, spices, cotija cheese, skinless chicken browned, this sauce put it all in dish, melted mozzarella on top
  • Vinnie isn't a huge mozzarella fan because it is low in fat and high in carbs for a cheese

  • Pam has gained weight on NSNG but her boyfriend, who is hardly doing it, has lost weight 
  • Pam used to be a body builder -- this can be bad for a person's body 
    • Many eat and live quite unhealthily 
    • Lots of carbing up 
    • She has gone away from these ideas, but some of the things still stuck
      • She was still trying to eat all the time and get carbs, even NSNG
      • At the end of the day she was eating 6 times a day
      • IM fasting is good!!!!

NOT LYING TO YOURSELF

  • You can make mayo at home!
  • Easy to snack on what your kids don't finish on their plate
  • Must be honest where hidden sugar and grains may be
  • Have to give NSNG a full 60 days with NLIL 
  • Vinaigrette is touchy because lots of sugar 
  • Men tend to get quicker results than men 
  • Look at other positives that you get from NSNG if weight loss isn't happening right away, and let that be enough while your body resets
    • Clearer skin, less asthma, less foggy, better sleep, etc
    • If after 6mos of strict NSNG, look at your hormones and everything

DAIRY

  • Some people feel better not eating dairy
  • You can take a blood test to see how much dairy affects you
  • Can cause inflammation, just like gluten 
  • Dairy does have sugar in it, especially milk 
  • Anna has autoimmune issues, and dairy really affects her negatively
  • A lot of women who have been plateauing have issues with dairy as well
  • If you plateau, consider trying to not eat dairy 

HUMMUS

  • Chickpeas
  • Tahini
  • Garlic
  • Lemon
  • Olive Oil
  • That is ALL that should be in your hummus 
  • Watch how much hummus you eat, it is a condiment 

DIET SODAS

  • Bad because of what they do to your liver
  • Affect you just as much as normal soda

OLD GYMS

  • Gyms used to have names like "Vinnie's Gym"
  • Gyms were often separated by gender
    • Women had a few hours they would work out

  • Gyms used to be like very large work out rooms with few machines and steam rooms and pools etc., separate section for men and women 
  • Rudimentary squat rack, punching bag, rope, pull up devices

NEW GYMS

  • Vinnie still marvels at all that gyms like 24 hour Fitness have

HOW TO GET THE BUTT IN SHAPE

  • People want that big butt with the skinny leg 
  • Some women do the waist trainers for that hourglass figure
  • The girls working on their butts with weights and such are the ones who will get the nice butts
  • Throw leg press and hack squats in there
  • When you do a squat with a bar on your shoulders, you want to do a normal, parallel feet squat, NOT a pile squat
    • your butt has to kind of poke out then 
  • Squat- stand over the kettle bell
    • Eyes straight forward
    • Let your hands go to the kettle ball with your hands and hips freely bent 
    • Hold kettle bell between your legs and keep coming down with it
    • Working hamstring, quads, and buttocks 
  • Good lunges 
  • Do "butts" 2-3 times with a day in between
    • This is for any anaerobic exercise

DIABETES DEBACLE

  • Nicole, a diabetes expert, and Vinnie went through the twitter "shit-storm" together
  • The two wanted to find out why people were upset and quell everyone's fears
  • They had literally just recorded a podcast touching on the differences between Type 1 and Type 2
  • So, Vinnie brought on some people who were prior upset with Vinnie because they are affected by Type 1 diabetes, but with Vinnie they brought awareness on this show

SUGAR IN FRUIT AND IN FRUIT JUICE

  • Your body does not know the difference between fructose from an apple or high fructose corn syrup
  • If you are gonna eat fruit, eat it in the whole form
    • This is better because limits the amount of fructose
  • Fructose is metabolized in the liver, if you have big doses of fructose, it can hurt your triglycerides, cause liver disease and diabetes
  • When you eat high levels of fructose, you do not feel full because fructose does not raise insulin levels, which is what makes you feel full
  • Fenfen - was given to overweight people
    • Sped up metabolism and made your brain feel full
      • Drug was taking place of what we can make our bodies do anyway
      • When it was taken off the market, really hard for many people
  • Apple juice- one of the highest fructose things
    • Coke would be better because it has glucose which is better for your liver
    • 8oz of apple juice in a 16oz bottle
      • So so bad for you
      • 2:1 fructose:glucose
      • 58g of sugar, no fiber
  • Naked juice is not healthy -- it is straight fructose!!!
    • 10 cups of carrots, many apples, tons of raspberries, etc etc
      • You overeat this fruit but don't even notice because of how it is presented!
  • Green juice -- it is cold pressed
    • first ingredient is apple juice then pineapple juice, cucumber juice, spinach juice, romaine lettuce juice, swiss chard juice, lemon juice, kale juice
    • 35g of sugar -- the fact that it is green makes no difference
    • To get that much sugar from raw spinach, you would have to eat ~350 cups of raw spinach, OR 97 cups of swiss chard

    • Smart investment for Oprah because Weight Watchers makes their money from their clients' failures

    • IT DOESN'T WORK! And that's why Weight Watchers makes so much money
