TYPE 1 DIABETES DIAGNOSIS

  • Bethany has been on the podcast before.
  • She and her family were featured in the first Fat Doc.
  • Her son has Type 1 diabetes.
  • The family discovered this when she came back from a trip, and her son's weight had dropped from 46 to 40 lbs.

    • When her son was 8, her doctor was so incredulous and said her son wouldn't grow right and would have an eating disorder.
      • It was clear he just didn't understand. Her son was eating veggies and good protein and the like.
  • She could see what the food was doing to her son's blood sugar, and it was clear that this diet was helping keeping it under control.
  • This has given their family so much life and joy.
  • Her son is healthy, smart, a stellar athlete, and has a fantastic relationship with food and with his parents.
