KEEPING ON GOOD WEIGHT

  • Nick has been a Type 1 diabetic for over 20 years
  • Grew up eating a diet that resembled NSNG
  • Actually at a point where he tries to gain weight
  • When he eats sugar and grains, he loses weight
  • He needs to increase his fats
    • Avocado, eggs
  • Increase protein and workouts 
  • He has to balance protein intake before during and after workout to make it have an effect 
  • Insulin pump has to go into fat areas
    • He has trouble finding them - sometimes has to give his body a break
    • Prefers pump over injections 
  • Put on three or four lasting pounds in a couple of weeks
    • Increase in protein made a big difference 
  • Still feeling a bit fatigued -- likely should up fats a little, may get better when more fat-adapted
  • Even though he's always trim, he feels the difference when he's being healthy or not
    • Does not drink alcohol - makes him feel awful as a diabetic when he drinks
  • It's tough to be a diabetic
    • You can indulge, but a treat is a treat, not a staple
    • Must have good willpower
